Hey there! Welcome to Week 6 of My 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge. Today’s weekly report is going to be short, so hang on & let’s go!
This has been a BUSY week in our tailgatin’ household. Delish foods…good basketball (way to go, Golden State!) and on Monday I teamed up with LouAna Oils for a trio of appetizers: County Fair Style Fried Mac & Cheese Bites: Nacho, Gouda & Lobster!
These babies are soooo good! I ate over a dozen during production Sunday afternoon, but balanced it out by maintaining my workouts.
That’s a Smoked Gouda Fried Mac & Cheese Bite in the bottom center photo. So. Good.
Today, I’m going to answer a few of your questions. Your emails, support and questions mean so much to me!
Q: Are really walking 10,000 steps a day?
A: HA! I’m really trying to hit 10K, but I’m averaging around 6400. Why? Between working outside the home, working inside the home, caring for FOUR cats (this means 4 separate feeding areas to be maintained…DAILY) AND keeping homemade meals on the table at least 4-5 nights a week, and this little hobby called Totally Tailgates, my exercise time is super compressed. My schedule is just not my own…and that’s ok. I’ve never been happier…or so dependent on Jillian’s 20 minute workout!
Side note: Copa & I try to trade off cooking for the fam during the week – he’s a great cook! We are both committed to providing healthy meals for our family and share the responsibility. I felt obligated to tell you this, just so you didn’t think I am chained to the stove by my apron 7 days a week! Actually, we both LOVE being in the kitchen together! (He’s addicted to sous vide cooking- watch for recipes!)
Side note 2: The day I actually hit 10K was the day Cee Cee and I went to Disneyworld! It was by accident, not intentional. I was simply enjoying a special day with my daughter.
Q: Are you eating carbs?
A: Yes. Oh my, yes. What I am not doing is restricting carbs and loading up on fats. I am actually counting fat grams more than I am counting carbs. I’ve tried the whole “no carb” or “low carb” lifestyle before; I know it is a popular trend….carbs turn to sugar, etc. However, when my body is deprived of carbs, it seriously holds on to fat. That’s just me. One gram of carbs has 4 calories, and one gram of fat has 9 calories.
Guys, I’m trying to LOOSE fat. So yeah, I eat carbs because my body is burning them efficiently with my exercise program, then it moves on to burning off fat.
Example: One cup of hummus has approximately 435 calories, 49 carbs and 21 grams of fat.
One potato has approximately 225 calories, 50 carbs and .05 fat grams.
The potato is much more filling, same carb quotient, lower in calories and in fat!
But……I can have two potatoes for the same amount of calories and save almost 20 grams of fat! I know what you are going to say…I’m adding 50 extra carbs. Oh no! Guess what…I can burn those off just walking to my car in a big parking lot. Plus, those 2 potatoes will keep me fuller much longer than 1 cup of hummus.
Everything in moderation!
Sooooo…this week I lost 1 more pound for a total of 6 to date! Slow and steady wins the race.
P.S. – I got an email this morning asking about the silicone ice cube tray I used to make the fried mac & cheese bites. The response from the Mac & Cheese Bites has been awesome – thank you! This is the silicone ice cube tray is the one we use – it is BPA free and FDA approved. 🙂
P.S.S.- I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again……I am not a medical expert. I have not been trained in the area of nutritional weight loss methods. My opinions in this post and ALL my Weigh in Wednesday posts are strictly shared from a personal standpoint, and should not be taken as medical advice. Go see your doc before starting any weight loss program!
