Tiktok Boat Dip Recipe: The Players on the Field
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Taco seasoning
- Tomatoes & green chilies
- Sour cream
I mean, this dip is so simple! Back in the day, we called this Mexican sour cream dip. Then, a brilliant Tiktoker gave it the moniker “Boat Dip” and it went VIRAL. Lindsey, who goes by lindsn28, coined the dip’s name as she & her husband ate the dip on their boat.
SO, in an effort to do my due diligence for you, I had to test the dip.
On a boat.
Because I’m extra like that.
And, because we were spending the day on Disappearing Island on the intercoastal in New Smyrna Beach and wanted to stock our cooler with seriously yummy snacks!

This dip is customizable, too. A few of you sent me DMs that you like to add corn and/or black beans in the Tiktok Boat Dip Recipe. Hey, whatever gets your fans in the stands sounds good to me!
Now, in full disclosure, this dip is tasty but it ain’t pretty.
Honestly, its a little homely, bless it’s heart!
If you need to dress it up, add a few chopped tomatoes for chopped cilantro to make it more insta worthy.

PRO TIP! If you don’t like “chunks” in your dips, use a mini food processor like this one or a mini blender to chop the tomatoes and green chilis so they are really minced. This is the Blendjet mini blender I used in our Cantina Style Salsa.

Why do you drain the can of tomatoes & green chilis?
This is an optional step but I HIGHLY recommend draining the vegetables to keep your dip from becoming too watery. Especially if you are packing up your dip to take with you!
What do you serve along with the Tiktok Boat Dip Recipe?
Since this is a Mexican dip, tortillas are a natural go-to, followed by Fritos & pretzels. While we were on the boat, we also enjoyed crisp carrot strips with the dip!
What else can you add to the dip?
Readers DM’d me that they’ve added black beans and corn. Here are a few other suggestions:
- Green onions for additional pops of flavor, color, and texture.
- Jalapeno peppers (diced fine – no seeds!) for a spicier dip.
- Cilantro melds well with the flavors, too!
- Chopped, crispy bacon.
Tiktok Boat Dip Recipe
Ingredients
- 24 ounces sour cream low fat works well, too!
- 2 cups shredded cheese Mexican or sharp cheeses
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 can tomatoes and green chilis drained
Instructions
- Drain the can of tomatoes and green chilis. Lin a large bowl, stir together the sour cream, tomatoes and green chilis, taco packet and cheese.
- Mix will. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. (Do not let the dip sit out at room temperature for more than 2 hours!)
