The Playbook: Ingredients for Meatball Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls
- Hawaiian rolls: 12 count. You can also use any type of small dinner roll or slider bun.
- Meatballs: I use frozen Italian style meatballs but you could also use homemade meatballs.
- Marinara or Spaghetti Sauce: For simplicity, I use a jar of good store bought sauce.
- Cheese: Mozzerella is preferred! I also used an Italian blend of shredded cheese for added depth of flavor. You can use cheese slices or shredded cheese.
- Butter: Salted butter works best in this recipe. Margarine is not a team player for these sliders; use real cream butter only.
- Garlic powder: This helps flavor the buns as they bake before they are loaded up!
- Parmesan cheese: Use the powered kind in the green bottle….the texture is just perfect in the seasoned butter sauce! I also use shredded Parm as a topper, but when I do this the powdered Parm is definitely the base cheese for the sauce.
- Italian seasoning: If you do not have Italian seasoning, you can use equal amounts of oregano & basil.

The assembly of these Meatball Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls is actually pretty simple!
- Spread the bottom of the casserole dish with butter.
- Cut the rolls in half and place the bottom layer in the prepared casserole dish.
- Spread butter on the rolls. Sprinkle Italian seasoning & garlic powder on top. Broil until lightly browned.
- Heat marinara sauce & meatballs. Using tongs, place a meatball in the center of each roll.
How to Assemble Meatball Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls
- Top the meatballs with the mozzarella cheese. You can see in the photo below I added a few shavings of shredded Parmesan cheese, too.
- Resist the urge to add more marinara sauce! This will render soggy sliders.
- Place the top of the rolls on top of the meatballs & cheese.
- Prepare the herb butter sauce and brush on top of the rolls. Bake as directed & enjoy!
Storing your Meatball Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. To reheat, place in an ovenproof dish and bake at 250 degrees until warm. Or, cover with a slightly damp paper towel and microwave the sliders for a few seconds. We like reheating the air fryer, too!
