Football season is the BEST, and my favorite part of game day is the vast array of tailgating foods! With just 4 ingredients, this Hot Taco Dip is a CLASSIC – you will be ready to grab your spot in front on the big screen tv in a flash…not stuck in the kitchen & missing the good commercials!
The Players on the Field
- Hamburger meat
- taco seasoning
- cream cheese
- diced tomatoes and green chilies
- cheddar cheese – grated
Let’s Huddle Up
This dip is sooooo dang good! It’s hearty, creamy and one scoop is just not enough!
You can take it to a game-day potluck, just make sure to keep it warm in a small slow cooker. OH- and if you need to take a hostess gift to the Super Bowl party, I recommend this for your friends!
The Playbook for Hot Taco Dip
- If you are using leftover taco meat, you will need approximately 3 cups for this recipe.
- Don’t drain the diced tomatoes & green chilies! The liquid helps keep the consistency “dippable”.
- Crusty bread and thick pretzels would be good, too!
- My family does not care for chunks of tomatoes in foods. As a workaround, I pour the diced tomatoes and green chilies (with the liquid!) in this mini food processor that my mother-in-law gave us when we were newlyweds. This is the same one I use in my Mini Peach Bundt Cake recipe. 🙂
Hot Taco Dip is addictive- this is the bowl everyone will hover over during the game! It’s flavorful wihout being too spicy- I actually lick the spoon when I’m done making this appetizer!
We had a version of this recipe years ago when visiting our friends Rick & Shana. Shana’s parents held an annual Christmas Eve party, and one year Rick whipped this out! Rick used Velvetta, such a tailgating classic, but one day when recreating his recipe at home, I found my fridge void of Velvetta. It was a tragic moment, and one that let me to experiment with ye ‘ole faithful….cream cheese. BOOM. It worked!

Hot Taco Dip for Football Parties
Ingredients
- 1 Block cream cheese
- 1 10 ounce can Diced tomatoes and green chilies like Rotel
- 1 one ounce packet Taco seasoning
- 1 - 1 1/2 pounds Hamburger
- pinch or two cheddar cheese grated
Instructions
- Brown and drain hamburger meat. Add taco seasoning and prepare according to package directions.
- Once taco meat is finished, add cream cheese and stir until it is melted and the meat mixture is creamy. Pour diced tomatoes and cream cheese into meat mixture. Stir well. Cook over medium heat until hot and bubbly. Place shredded cheddar on top so it melts. Serve immediately.
