Hot Sausage Cheese Dip and football game days were just meant for each other. Everyone LOVES this dip! It’s rich, full of hearty sausage and loads of cheddar cheese! The dip is also great for New Year’s Eve, family movie nights, or anytime you want to feed your fans something they will rave about later!
This dip is such a crowd pleaser, and is super easy to transport in a mini crockpot to a friend’s house for a game day watch party. (If you want a cute, small cast iron skillet like mine, check this out!) By the end of the game, the dip will be gone! Copa loves a hot dip loaded with flavorful meat, and this one is definitely a favorite in our house. It’s right up there with Buffalo Chicken Dip for casual entertaining or family game nights at home.
Hot Sausage Cheese Dip
There are almost as many versions of this dip on Pinterest as there are Packer fans in Wisconsin. We’ve tried ’em all! Most of these recipes lure you in with their claim of “Just 3 Ingredients”! This means you will be using processed cheese. Now, I must confess, I appreciate processed cheese and use it quite a bit during tailgate season.
Hot Sausage Cheese Dip seems to have a better flavor with a few more ingredients, and fresh cheese compliments the complex sausage flavors a little bit better than other options.
Hot Sausage Dip: The Players On The Field
The ingredients are simple: spicy sausage, cream cheese, Rotel, shredded cheddar cheese, spices and sour cream.
I made a batch this week using fat-free cream cheese, light sour cream and turkey sausage.(You know I just finished my weight loss plan, right?!?!) How were the results with these substitutions? AMAZING. I shared this lighter version with my friends….they were so surprised that a dip this darn good was not, in fact, loaded with fat! So you see, you can make it both ways with the same results: a deliciously addicting drip!
Take It To The Tailgate Tip
Make your Hot Sausage Dip as directed. Pour into a small slow cooker and keep the dip on warm, stirring occasionally. Can you take this dip to a stadium tailgate? Yes & no. If you have an RV or electricity nearby, just plug in your slow cooker & start cheering! The dip is best served warm. (Although, Ella said she would eat Hot Sausage Dip cold..day or night! I had to confess right then and there that I’d recently done just that!) This dip. It will change your tailgating life!
