5 Tips for Sending Bid Day Flowers
Let me tell you why sending flowers is important regardless of the PNMs bid day standing,
and then I will tell you how it’s really done.
There are two reasons why you will send your daughter/niece/friend flowers on bid day:
1. You will congratulate her on her new house & letters.
2. You will let her know how proud you are of her if she did not finish recruitment or receive a bid.
Reason number one is obvious and is done throughout the south. Regardless of your geographical location, there is nothing more special for a young lady than to receive flowers!
Now, let’s say your PNM dropped out of rush or did not receive a bid at all.
It is even MORE critical in this case that you send bid day flowers!
Here’s why: First, she will be painfully aware on bid day that she is not in a house. The other girls on her hall who receive bids will be displaying massive floral arrangements. Show her you care and that you are very proud of her! Send her flowers in her colleges colors! This will also reinforce to her that she is an important person on her campus and that she has a lot to offer her college! You can see our tips on what to do when you don’t get a bid here.
There are a few secrets to sending Bid Day flowers.
Like everything else with recruitment, it’s all about the timing.
Let me show you how to totally nail this for your PNM.
HOW AND WHEN TO SEND BID DAY FLOWERS:
1. Mid week during rush, find a local florist that delivers to campus.
The internet is a great resource; call them to make sure they are delivering to campus on bid day!
2. Call the local florist withing 72 hours of Bid Day.
Let them know you will be ordering for a delivery on ____ date. (Enter the Bid Day date.)
Tell them you would like a seasonal bouquet in either the school colors OR a specific sorority’s colors.
Let them know you will be calling them on Bid Day morning to confirm the color preference.
Give them your credit card to secure the pre-order.
3. The day before Bid Day is Pref rounds. Ask your PNM what houses she is preffing – it will be 1-3 houses.
Time to go online again! Look up the colors for the sorority houses she is visiting for prefs AND the address
of the houses. Write down the colors of the sorority & address for each house! Note: I called the florist back once
my daughter had her party card for prefs to let them know her bouquet would be one of four color options.
(She attended three pref parties, which was the maximum at UK, and the fourth option of UK colors.)
Bid Day! You will hear from your PNM before they receive their bid cards, I am sure. The Gamma Chis visit the
girls who did not receive bids early in the day. (We have tips on what to do if your PNM does not get a bid.)
4. If the PNM did not get a bid, call the florist ASAP & request the school color bouquet option to be delivered to her dorm. Tack on a balloon or two and personalize the note card to reinforce how proud you are of her!
5. If your PNM receives a bid, call the florist and tell them the sorority colors and address of the house.
**TIP** Send the flowers to her new house! There is nothing like receiving flowers at your new house, and
it further demonstrates to her new sisters the support from home she has with her choice!
HAPPY BID DAY!
