Why We LOVE Shark Week
A glimpse inside our daily life: The hubs always breaks out his Greg “The Shark” Norman golf shirts this week…. 🙂
By the way, if you are heading down to Florida for a COVID-relief vacation (or shark week!) make sure to head over & check out my Florida Turnpike Restroom Review. 🙂 (Yes, I did this!)
How To Make Easy Shark Week Party Cupcakes
Now, you can take the “I’m-gonna-make-all-this-from scratch” approach, OR you can save your cookin’ energy for Thanksgiving. Or for eating lunch out with friends. As a tailgater, I appreciate simplicity when the overall result can be dang good & dang easy. Here is what you will need:
- 1 box of white cake mix
- Any ingredients listed on said box to make cupcakes
- 1 tub of white commercial cake icing
- Blue gel food coloring
- Cupcake liners
- Oreo cookies cut in half
- Mix up your batter, then pour into prepared cupcake liners.
- Drop a teensy bit of blue gel food coloring into each cupcake pod. Swirl the coloring into batter with a toothpick.
- THEN, bake & frost with your commercial white icing. You just put a little more of the food coloring directly into the icing – SO EASY.
- Break apart 12 Oreos to yield 24 fins. Place those fins right on top….you’re done!
Look how moist and delicious they are for your Shark Party! 🙂 I drizzled a little sugar on top just for good measure.

In true tailgate fashion, we placed the cupcakes in an aluminum tin for easy party transport.
Last year, we even kicked of Shark Week at the Shark Capital of the World – New Smyrna. Lucky for us, it was during wine walk weekend!
Last year, thanks to my new friend cancer, we stayed home and celebrated with cupcakes & Southern Fried Shrimp. If you don’t have access to fresh shrimp, my recipe for Southern Fried Shrimp will solve your problem.
Enjoy watching Shark Week – tag your shark week creations #totallytailgates on Instagram….I’d love to see them!
