College Exam Care Packages for Your Student
Exams are stressful, and kids are usually worn out by the time they roll around. Whether you student attends school out of state, in your current city, or is even living at home while taking courses, a care package lets them know they are on your mind and in your heart!
Nothing beats a little love from home.
A few thoughtful items tucked away in a small package can be a ray of sunshine in a day otherwise filled with library sessions, TA’s that don’t return emails, and microwaved Easy-Mac.
THREE THINGS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR CARE PACKAGE:
- A handwritten message
- Food (preferably a homemade goodie)
- Cash
There ya go! SO SIMPLE. These three things are highly valued by college students no matter where they are living. Getting a text from your young adult child means the world to us. For them, seeing your familiar handwriting on a tangible piece of paper will mean the world to them!
And, one of your famous homemade cookies or even a store bought bakery item that is a family favorite will fit the bill. Once they’ve seen your note and devoured the sweets, a little spending money in their pocket will carry them through a long night of cramming.
Here is a sample of what I am sending my daughter in her care package:
Aluminum foil pan containers and board lids work really well for care packages. They are awesome to have on hand during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Leftovers can be sent home with friends and family, or cookies baked and shared with them easily. Or, for College Exam Care Packages!
THREE TIPS FOR CARE PACKAGES
- Pack lightly! Avoid the natural inclination to over pack! As a mama, this is hard for me. I really want to jam everything I can into her care package. But, the reality is they will only pull out a few items and leave the rest either in the box, on their desk, or in front of their R.A.’s door for bribery purposes. 🙂
- No icing or confectioners sugar coatings on baked goods! Remember, you never know where the boxes are house before they reach your son or daughter’s dorm mail box. Extreme temperatures can melt chocolate (ew!) and confectioner’s sugar becomes messy very quickly.
- Cash – a little goes a long way! Remember, this is just a little something for a coffee at Starbucks, a lunch out, etc. My recommendation is to hesitate if sending more than $20 through the mail. If your son or daughter is in a cash crunch, move money directly into their bank account or university card account.
