Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies are a rustic, new twist on an old Southern staple: The Buttermilk Pie! They are a fabulous Sweet and Southern dessert to have on hand when hosting a game day watch party. Everyone wants a little something sweet as the game winds down, but not a big dessert. Single serving desserts lets everyone graze as their sweet tooth dictates! 🙂 After hot wings, chili, and hamburgers, our rustic Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies, made with Dixie Crystals Sugar, are a sweet, bite size dessert….. the perfect way to end the game!
These tassies. Oh, my goodness. They are DECADENT.
Our family has eaten the entire batch in one weekend.
One. Weekend.

Desserts are a little tricky when it comes to serving guests at tailgates and at home watch parties. Single servings are best, but cookies and cupcakes are just so…..expected. You know what I mean? Let me introduce you to the most ah-mazing single serving dessert: the Bourbon Buttermilk Tassie!
As you know, I am excited to serve as an Ambassador for the Blog Life University Conference in Atlanta at the end of July. As part of the conference, I am participating in the Dixie Crystals Sweet and Southern Desserts Recipe Contest.
I wanted to develop a recipe that would serve LOTS of friends on game day. This recipe yields 48 Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies. I know, that sounds like a lot, right? But if you invite 12 couples over for game day, that is twenty four people. If each one has two (and they will!! 🙂 ) then that brings you up to the quantity of…..48! Spot on. Game. Day. Ready. These are SO GOOD. And, plate & present ’em on this Game Day Football Table Cover for a touchdown! I used two mini muffin pans like these to bake them.
Rustic Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies are showcased in a the traditional tassie cream cheese pastry. The rich, sugary filling provides just the right amount of sweetness, and the tassies are topped off with a dusting of pumpkin pie spice. Divine! They are perfect for fall entertaining. I used real, salted butter and Dixie Crystals Granulated Sugar. The bourbon is very mild when woven with the other ingredients; it blends well and adds a depth of flavor to the tassies. Y’all know I love to cook with bourbon and visit bourbon breweries!
Look at that crust! I wish you could smell these little gems with me right now…..
They are GREAT single serving desserts for at home tailgate parties!
If you make Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies for your tailgate, tag them #totallytailgates !
Happy game day!

Bourbon Buttermilk Tassies
Ingredients
Tassie Pastry
- 2 3 oz packages cream cheese softened
- 1 cup butter softened
- 2 cups all purpose flour
Bourbon Buttermilk Filling
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbs flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbs bourbon
- 1 tsp vanilla
- pinch salt
- 2 pinches pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
Tassie Pastry
- Heat oven to 350.
- Mix the cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer on low speed until blended. Add flour and continue mixing until all ingredients are incorporated and a soft dough forms. Cover dough and place in refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Grease a 24 count mini muffin tin with shortening. For best results, use shortening rather than a non-stick spray.
- Remove dough from refrigerator. Separate into 48 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball with your hands. Place 24 of the 48 balls into the mini muffin tin, and press until the base & sides are covered. Set the remaining 24 balls aside and use for your second batch.
Bourbon Buttermilk Filling
- Mix butter and sugar with an electric mixer on low speed. Add remaining ingredients - except pumpkin pie spice- and mix until well blended.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared muffin tin. (Place extra batter in refrigerator until ready for use.) Dust the tops of each tassie with a little sprinkling of pumpkin pie spice.
- Cook at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until set. Cool in pan 5 minutes before removing.
- When the first batch of tassies are cooled and removed, re-grease muffin tin and add remaining batter. Bake as directed.
