If you took a peek at How To Pack For Sorority Recruitment, you know I cover how and when to where designer garments. Wearing the same designer each day of recruitment is a big no-no, if the designer’s label is visible or their signature pattern is recognizable.
Here are a few Amazon Prime Day & Sorority Recruitment Essentials…..
First up…the perennial favorite of sorority rush :
LILLY PULITZER
Please, please read this before buying gobs of Lilly for rush. That said, you will need a Lilly.
Why we love the dresses below – the signature classic shift is complimentary on most figures. You will wear this to bridesmaids luncheons, Easter Sunday, Mother’s Day breakfasts and weekends at the inn. It’s worth the price.
Most universities provide Panhellenic Recruitment t-shirts that are mandatory for the first day or two of recruitment. You will need two different pairs of shorts if you have two days of open houses.
NOTE: As stated in How To Pack For Sorority Rush, if you wear a Lilly dress for party rounds occurring later in the week, you will need SOLID color shorts (a.k.a. shorts that don’t scream Lilly) for open houses. However, if your dresses are sans obvious Lilly patterns, then definitely grab one pair of Lilly’s for open houses! You don’t want both pairs of shorts to be obvious Lilly patterns…that’s overkill.
BIG NO-NO’S FOR SHORTS + PANHELLENIC SHIRT DAY: Do not, I repeat, do not wear denim or spandex. There’s no need to elaborate on this…..you should not EVER wear these fabrics during recruitment.
OUR PICKS FOR SHORTS – J CREW & UNDER $40…. and 100% cotton. No synthetic fibers!
SHOES
Here’s the deal: If you wear a noticeable designer, do not wear that same pair of shoes OR another pair with the same designer more than two day.
Shoes we LOVE for sorority recruitment:
DEAL: Sam Edelman wedges for under $25!
BIG SHOE TIP: Grap a pair of inexpensive, black flip flops to wear between parties. You could be walking up to miles each day between houses, waiting areas, etc. YOU WILL NEED FLIP FLOPS. The cheaper, the better. Black doesn’t show dirt, and always looks classy. You will tuck your flip flops into your rush bag.
RUSH BAGS
Rush bags travel with you from house to house during party rounds, but they stay outside during your parties. For this reason, look for rush bags that are 1) Very inexpensive 2) Waterproof . Seriously, those are the only qualifiers!
Name brand bags, leather, etc. could be stolen and/or ruined if there is a major down pour while you are inside a house for a round. What goes inside your rush bag? An small umbrella. Makeup. Flip flops. Hairbrush. Gum or breath mints. Deodorant. Healthy snacks like these, and a refillable water bottle. Basically, anything you think you will need to freshen up and stay happy during a 10 hour day of rounds!
TIP: Stay away, far away, from those super cute monogrammed canvas bags. Canvas is super heavy and annoying when it gets soaked! Plus, everything inside will get soaked, too.
