Long days at the pool, beach or lake while celebrating our great country call for endless amounts of yummy appetizers. And what could be better than a patriotic themed appetizer? I see 4th of July inspired desserts ALL over Pinterest….but not too many appetizers. Easy Patriotic Taco Salad Flag Recipe is very basic, and can also serve a family of 4 as a full meal!
You start by preparing your taco meat according to the package directions and set it aside. Crumble the tortilla chips and place them in the bottom of a 9×13 in baking dish. Cover the chips with prepared taco meat.
Now, the next steps are really a matter of preference! You can layers of sour cream, refried beans, guac, salsa, etc. Not everyone in our family likes those toppings, so I kept is simple. After the meat, I added a generous layer of cheddar cheese, taco sauce and followed by shredded lettuce. Finally, the stars & strips were added with chopped tomatoes & blue corn tortilla chips!

Easy Patriotic Taco Salad Flag Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups browned hamburger meat
- 1 1 ounce package taco seasoning
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 cups shredded lettuce
- 3 cups chopped tomatoes
- 1 cup taco sauce or salsa
- 4 cups tortilla chips
- 1 cup blue corn tortilla chips
Instructions
- Add taco seasoning to the browned hamburger meat, and prepare according to package directions. Set aside.
- Crumble the four cups of tortilla chips. Spread in the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.
- Top the tortilla chips with prepared taco meat. Spread cheddar cheese on top, followed by the taco sauce. Cover with shredded lettuce.
- Place chopped tomatoes in rows on top of the lettuce; they are the stripes on your taco salad flag. In the top left corner of salad, add crumbled blue corn tortilla chips for the stars.
